We thank all of you who were able to attend our Parent Informational Meetings last Tuesday, May 1, and this evening, May 8th. Parents were provided with a general overview of Harry Bridges Span School, introduced to the interim principal, Lou Mardesich, and the school design team. A short question and answer session followed each meeting. Handouts and important information included:
Food Services Meal Application:
June 18, 2012 Applications will be sent home with current LAUSD students who will be transitioning to the new school. These need to be returned to the cafeteria at their CURRENT school or sent to Food Services/LAUSD using the stamped envelope provided.
July 10, 2012 Applications will be mailed home to the current address on file if your application has not been received.
August 1, 2012 Applications will be available in the Harry Bridges Span School office. They can be submitted at the school site.
Applications can also be submitted any time after July 1, 2012 on the Food Services website at http://cafe-la.lausd.net.
Registration for kindergarten will begin next week. Please see our calendar for dates and times.
Registration letters will be sent home within the next two weeks to all other students within our address boundaries. Call our office for more information.
Grade-level orientations will be held during the summer. Parents and guardians of all registered students will be sent information regarding the dates and times for these orientation meetings. During orientation parents and students will be given more detailed information about behavioral expectations, campus rules and procedures, curriculum and instruction. Parents and students will also be offered tours of the campus. At this time, as it is still under construction, only the main office and auditorium are available for use.
Academic Attire (uniforms):
Parents were provided information regarding the required school uniforms. All students will be expected to wear navy blue or black bottoms (shorts, pants, skirts or jumpers). Students may not wear denim, sweatpants or pajama-type bottoms. Elementary students will be expected to wear white collared short- or long-sleeve shirts (polo type preferred), while middle school students will have the option of powder blue or dark/navy blue. No sleeveless, non-collared, or logo/striped shirts are allowed. Students not in uniform will be sent to the office to change in to an appropriate school uniform. Parents who have financial difficulty will be assisted in acquiring uniforms. At this time the school is not selling academic attire as we have not yet chosen a mascot. Once a mascot has been selected, the school anticipated selling school-logo tops for all ages and PE uniforms for middle school students.
Initial informational documents were provided. These include the Academic Attire Policy, Food Services Meal Application, Kindergarten Core Suggested Reading List, 2nd and 3rd Grade Common Core Suggested Reading List, 4th and 5th Grade Common Core Suggested Reading List, and Grades 6-8 Common Core Suggested Reading List.
Many questions were asked at the meetings. If you have any further concerns or questions, please feel free to contact the school office.
